Cheese supposedly closes the stomach, but it is also good for the teeth, as a German study has found. It contains a lot of calcium and minerals and mineralizes the tooth enamel. The fat in the cheese also covers the teeth like a protective film. At the end of a meal, treat yourself to a piece of Brie, Edam, Harz, Limburger and Tilsiter, these varieties are particularly protective of the teeth.

The crusaders brought sugar to Europe around 1100 AD. As a medicine, spice and food, the tempting sweet was reserved for the richest for many centuries. In the meantime, this meant that black teeth and an extremely narrow-lipped smile in the upper class inevitably became fashionable – a dubious dental status symbol, so to speak.
